This was an interesting book with lots of great research to support the main argument. It's a short easy read and I was able to get through it over a weekend. The main premise is; materialistic values do not make people happy, yet they are the prevalent norm in capitalistic society. The book is a bit outdated, but the essence still rings true.
I would be interested to see research showing the ways in which social media effect materialism, but these things are not discussed in this book. Also, the new phenomenon of people moving towards more minimalistic lifestyles was not studied, again because these were not prevalent topics when the book was written.
All in all a good easy read with lots of interesting information.
